Nedjma

Nedjma, that in Arabic means star, is an installation created on the occasion of an exhibition on the theme of Andalucia, the Arab period in Spain. My intention was to create a place where people could stay while maintaining a relationship with the outside. The form derives from the typical eight-pointed star used in many Arab decorations. On the walls are given texts of Andalusian women poets of the medieval period, are essentially all love poems. The words perforated on the wood, visible in Spanish and Arabic, are readable from the inside, so outside appear reversed, making them the abstract decorations. These verses are an invitation to enter into a place to stay for a while in the past history and to discover among the absence of the missing letters the relationship with the outside.

Nedjma, che in arabo significa stella, è un’installazione creata in occasione di una mostra in Marocco, a Oujda, sul tema dell’Andalusia, il periodo arabo in Spagna. La mia intenzione era di creare un luogo in cui le persone potessero stare mantenendo una relazione con l’esterno. La forma deriva dalla tipica stella a otto punte presente in molte decorazioni arabe. Nelle pareti sono riportati testi di poetesse andaluse del periodo medievale, sono essenzialmente tutte poesie d’amore. Le parole perforate sul legno, visibili in lingua spagnola e araba, sono leggibili dall’interno, quindi dall’esterno appaiono al contrario, diventando così delle decorazioni astratte. Questi versi sono un invito ad entrare in un luogo, a restare per un po’ nella storia passata e scoprire tra l’assenza della lettere bucate la relazione con l’esterno.
