Questo progetto è un lavoro sul volto, il ritratto, l’espressione, la maschera. Si ispira ai faccioni apotropaici presenti nelle facciate dei palazzi storici, soprattutto medievali, che con le loro espressioni mostruose, avevano la funzione di allontanare il maligno dalla casa. Suggerisce il concetto di daimon, inteso come essenza e forza vitale all’interno di noi stessi che ci accompagna a realizzare la nostra natura. Le foto sono state realizzate senza l’utilizzo del digitale, ma creando manualmente una sorta di effetto tridimensionale come se gli ‘innesti’ vegetali fossero realmente appoggiate sopra i volti.
This project explores the face, the portrait, the expression, the mask. It draws inspiration from the apotropaic faces found on the facades of historic buildings, especially medieval ones, whose monstrous expressions served to ward off evil from the home. It evokes the concept of the daimon, understood as the essence and vital force within ourselves that guides us toward fulfilling our true nature. The photographs were taken without the use of digital technology, but by manually creating a sort of three-dimensional effect, as if the plant grafts were actually placed on the faces.
