Installations, Photographs, Drawings – 2013
spices, seeds, nuts, photographs, drawing (various sizes)

This is a body of work composed by several media. The “Amuleti” installation placed on the floor and created with spices that shows superstitious symbols used in italian popular culture and from other cultures. “Vanitas” the photographic series of self-portraits recalling, for cutting and pose, painting classical portraiture where I wear vegetable elements, mostly edible as elements of embellishment, giving them a symbolic aura, like if they were jewelry, items decorative of clothing, headgear, or precious amulets. A great necklace of nuts hanging on the wall reminds to the ritual, and the shape of the fruit to a part of the body. On three shelves, some small jewelry made with edible materials are laid on pillows: pearls of tapioca (starch of manioc tuber, important food for most of the African and Latin America people); Karkadè flowers, known for its healthy properties since ancient times, beans, cinnamon, nutmeg, elements that since the past, have played apotropaic meanings. Finally a series of biro drawings shows, like an ancient herbarium, aromatic foods, spices, legumes. The concept is the value of food not only as a nutrient but also for its thaumaturgic and magical meaning.
